Technology News Tracker: Ten Years of Autonomous Operation

In 2018, Komatsu is marking 10 years of commercial deployment of its Autonomous Haulage System.

The system enables fully autonomous operation of haul trucks on a mine site.

Currently there are about 130 autonomous trucks operating in the market in three applications—iron, copper and oil sands.

Komatsu is testing the system in coal applications, as well, and says it is transferable to other applications.

The company is also currently testing its cabless Innovative Autonomous Haulage Vehicle.

Komatsu says this concept vehicle will hopefully be a push for customers to move into the next phase of autonomous trucks.
