The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has initiated a project to adopt nationally an international standard, ISO 12188-1:2010, Tractors and machinery for agriculture and forestry — Testing procedures for positioning and guidance systems in agriculture — Part 1: Dynamic testing of satellite-based positioning devices used in agriculture.
The US, through ASABE, initiated the creation of ISO 12188-1:2010. The ASABE-approved draft standard X587, Dynamic Testing of Satellite-Based Positioning Devices Used in Agriculture, developed by the Society’s technical committee on precision agriculture, served as the basis for the ISO document.
The adoption increases exposure of the standard and its benefits in the North American marketplace and further harmonizes national and international standardization, a goal that facilitates manufacturing, safety advancements and product marketing worldwide.
ASABE is recognized worldwide as a standards developing organization for food, agricultural, and biological systems, with more than 225 standards currently in publication. Conformance to ASABE standards is voluntary, except where required by state, provincial, or other governmental requirements, and the documents are developed by consensus in accordance with procedures approved by the American National Standards Institute.
