FARO CREAFORM, a business unit of AMETEK, Inc., has announced the launch of the HandySCAN 3D EVO Series, a handheld 3D laser scanning solution designed for industrial metrology. The new series integrates hardware updates, including a built-in touchscreen and augmented reality (AR) capabilities, to improve the efficiency of dimensional inspections and reverse engineering.
The lineup is headlined by the HandySCAN EVO Elite, which is manufactured in an ISO 17025 certified laboratory and certified based on ISO 10360 standards. The scanner provides metrology-grade accuracy of 0.020 mm and a volumetric accuracy of 0.020 mm + 0.015 mm/m. The system utilizes 46 blue laser lines plus one additional line for specific scanning requirements.

Integrated Visualization and AR
To reduce reliance on external computer workstations during the scanning process, the EVO Series features a 4.3-inch touchscreen display. This allows operators to visualize data in real time, access parameters, and manage processing options directly on the device.
The series also incorporates a high-resolution 12 MP camera. This hardware enables augmented reality features and allows for the documentation of inspection processes through photography, providing a more comprehensive record for quality control teams.
Workflow and Connectivity
The HandySCAN 3D EVO Series is designed for use directly on the production floor to accelerate product development and reduce rework. Key operational features include:
- Auto-Alignment — A new feature designed to streamline repetitive inspections and enhance quality control consistency.
- Mobility Kit — Wireless capabilities that allow for greater freedom of movement in complex manufacturing environments.
- User Interface — An embedded Graphical User Interface (GUI) that supports 3D manipulation (mesh) and advanced features like high-resolution mode and clipping options.
- Scale Bar — A 350 mm scale bar is included to maintain measurement accuracy across various environments.
"As we unveil this innovative lineup, we're not just introducing a product; we're transforming how professionals across industries approach 3D measurement precision and efficiency," said Fanny Truchon, President of FARO CREAFORM.
The series is supported by the Creaform Metrology Suite and is intended for use across the automotive, aerospace, metalworking, and heavy equipment industries. Based in Lévis, Québec, and Lake Mary, Florida, FARO CREAFORM was formed by combining FARO’s 3D measurement segment with Creaform’s metrology solutions following AMETEK's acquisition strategies.
