Direct step to Stage V for narrow tractors to be included in new emissions regulation

In light of the upcoming, extremly short application period of Stage IV for narrow tractors, enabling a direct step from the emission requirements of Stage IIIB to Stage V for narrow tractors in the power category above 56 kW has emerged as a realistic and suitable proposal. In the last months, CEMA discussed with the European Commission the way forward on this. During the WGAT and Council working group on the new Stage V emission regulation, various EU Member States also supported such a proposal. The European Parliament already adopted an amendment supporting this direct step in the summer.

The issue was discussed and finally agreed during the last trialogue meetings on the regulation. A formal confirmation on this decision is expected in the coming months.

Enabling such a step in the new regulation will include different elements, such as: 

• An increase of the flexibility percentage for narrow tractors to 150% or 200% during Stage IV
• Providing the option to type approve narrow tractors in that power category until January 10, 2017
• Allowing Stage IIIB narrow tractors to make use of the Stage V transition period

These elements will all be part of the new Stage V emission regulation. Afterwards, some changes might be necessary to the REPPR Delegated Act (Regulation 2015/96).
