JCB has launched the first two models in a new and improved range of soil compactors.
The VM117D and VM137D are powered by Stage IIIB/Tier 4 Interim JCB Ecomax engines delivering 93 kW (125 hp). Combining a wealth of compaction experience at JCB Vibromax, with market-leading components from JCB Power Systems, the two machines herald a new generation of soil compaction equipment from JCB.
The VM117 and VM137 machines will be offered for sale globally and will be manufactured in Germany, India and Brazil. The models will be available with Tier 2, BS3 and Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB engines.
Key features include:
- Stage IIIB/Tier 4 Interim JCB Ecomax engines delivering 16% fuel savings
- Smooth drum or pad-foot operation for all types of material compaction
- Compaction analysis system delivering measured performance
- Reduced in-cab noise levels
Improved Soil Compaction Solution
The VM117D has an operating weight of 11 tonnes, while the VM137D, weighs in at 12.2 tonnes. Both rollers come equipped as standard with a smooth drum. Representing the largest segment in soil compaction, these single drum vibratory compactors are developed for a wide range of compaction work in all kinds of infrastructure and housing projects. For operation in cohesive soil, both soil compactors are available with pad foot drums as an option. The standard smooth drum can be equipped with a two piece shell kit for increased versatility.
Significant enhancements have been made to the compaction criteria, including amplitude, frequency, centrifugal force, static linear load and weight distribution, resulting in fewer passes being required to meet the material density requirements.
A comprehensive range of compaction recording systems (Compatronic) is available, from a basic compaction control system to a sophisticated compaction analysis system, combined with GPS tracking and a printer function to document the work. JCB’s Automatic Vibration Control (AVC) automatic compaction control system, which avoids over-compaction at the end of each pass, is a standard feature of both the VM117D and the VM137D.
The Intelligent Compaction System (ICS) is the latest innovation from JCB Vibromax. This system automatically and infinitely adjusts the amplitude and frequency settings, according to the achieved compaction results. The ICS system reduces the number of passes required, improving fuel consumption and productivity, giving uniform compaction and allowing the operator to complete the job efficiently.
The spacious cab delivers an excellent level of visibility to the rear of the machine and to the drum edges. The excellent visibility increases operational safety, especially when working in confined areas and improves productivity. Significantly reduced noise levels make these machines the quietest compactors in the JCB line-up.
Ecomax Engine Delivers Power With Economy
When the optional ECO Mode is used, the electronically-controlled JCB Ecomax engine delivers 16% fuel savings in conjunction with an optimised hydraulic system and variable-speed cooling fan, a complete package which will be known as ECOmpact. With the Tier 2 engine, the optional variable fan kit provides up to 5% fuel savings.
JCB Vibromax soil compactors are well known for easy serviceability and for best-in-class build quality and this robust durability and ease of serviceability has been further improved in the new generation of machines, thanks to a simplified single-piece exciter system, robust IP69 standard electrical systems, a maintenance-free center joint, pre-loaded rubber mountings and all service check points easily accessible from ground level.
