
SIKO GmbH has expanded its sensor portfolio with the introduction of the WV3600M (solid shaft) and WH3600M (hollow shaft) absolute rotary encoders. These compact sensors are designed to provide precise absolute position and speed measurement for mobile machinery and off-highway vehicles operating in harsh environments.
The encoders feature a battery-free mechatronic multiturn system that operates contactlessly, eliminating wear and maintenance requirements. The sensors are available with measurement ranges of 360-degree singleturn, 4,096 revolutions (12-bit) multiturn, and 65,536 revolutions (16-bit) multiturn. This makes them suitable for applications such as steering angle detection, lifting system positioning, and slew angle monitoring.
With a diameter of 36 mm and a length of 54 mm, the encoders are designed for tight installation spaces. The rugged design provides high shock and vibration resistance and meets IP65, IP67, and IP6K9K protection class ratings. The units are rated for reliable operation at temperatures from –40 degrees Celsius to 85 degrees Celsius (–40 degrees Fahrenheit to 185 degrees Fahrenheit).
The WV3600M and WH3600M series utilize a modular concept to facilitate integration. Options include solid or hollow shafts, servo or clamping flanges, and 36 mm or 58 mm flange sizes. Multiple shaft options such as flat, keyway, or pin-shaft are also available. For connectivity, the devices offer an axial or radial M12 connector and a CANopen interface that transmits process data and condition information. An integrated status LED assists with installation and diagnostics.
