Applied Process Inc. has collaborated with AFC Holcroft to produce a Monster Parts integral atmosphere batch furnace for a new plant that Applied Process is establishing in Oshkosh, WI.

  • Well suited for applications that consolidate many steel or aluminum weldments, forgings, castings or assemblies into a single, large, elegant ductile iron design not previously feasible
  • Features Universal Batch Quench-Austemper (UBQA) design
  • Working envelope of 84 in. x 96 in. x 56 in. (2,050 mm x 2,438 mm x 1,422 mm) and a maximum gross load of 20,000 lbs. (9,090 kg)
  • Integrates a controlled atmosphere furnace with an oversized nitrate/nitrite salt quench, with transfer from furnace accomplished safely, automatically and under atmosphere
  • Employs strategically placed natural gas fired radiant tubes
  • Meets stringent temperature uniformity requirements of various new international standards
  • Utilizes endothermic gas atmosphere with natural gas addition
  • Heat and atmosphere are uniformly circulated in furnace with aid of four alloy fans
  • Raised pier design in furnace allows both sight lines necessary for efficient radiant heat transfer and smooth flow of atmosphere circulation
  • Eliminates surface decarburization 
  • Special direct gear drive handling system smoothly accelerates and decelerates load quickly, without rough, jerking motions that can plague conventional transfer systems
  • Quench tank and housing design, coupled with proprietary agitation and water addition techniques, provide quench severity that exceeds typical salt quench systems
  • Oversize quenches allow for less than a 15 F (8.3 C) temperature rise for a maximum design gross load
  • Quench system’s operating temperature range is 360 F to 725 F (182 C to 399 C)
  • Allows for nearly 100% salt reclamation using minimal energy
  • Not contaminated by drag-out of high temperature Austenitizing salt because system is atmosphere-to-salt
  • Salt-rich water from primary wash can easily be rectified, filtered and then the salt can be 100% reclaimed using proprietary (green) technology
