FPT Industrial has unveiled its new F36 Stage V engine at Agritechnica (Hannover, November 12-18 - Hall 16 - Stand C35). The new engine is specially designed for off-road applications which require extreme compactness and versatility, as exemplified through the claim “Power of density.” It is ideal for vehicles that need maximum visibility and maneuverability, such as tractors and telehandlers. At Agritechnica 2017, FPT Industrial presents the F36 engine structural version specifically developed for mid-range agricultural tractors.

The FPT Industrial new F36 Stage V has been completely redesigned starting from an increased engine displacement from 3.4 to 3.6 L with no changes in external dimensions, thus ensuring unchanged compactness. Improved engine hardware includes new turbocharger and optimized piston design to cope with higher performance, increasing power output by 14% (up to 143 hp) and torque by 20% (up to 600 Nm), achieving best-in-class torque density (+20% versus market average in 3-4 L range) and power density (+2% versus market average in 3-4 L range).

The overall aftertreatment packaging is unchanged between Stage IV and Stage V, avoiding machine redesign across emission stages. Furthermore, oil change interval of 600 hours, one-side serviceability and a maintenance-free after-treatment solution allow emission compliance with minimum operating costs and simple maintenance operation over its lifecycle. All these characteristics allow an increase of 10% in productivity.

Furthermore, the F36 ensures faster and easier maintenance operations due to the one-side serviceability layout. The maintenance-free ATS contributes to operating costs reductions and maximum vehicle uptime. The F36 is compliant with Stage V emissions standards, thanks to implementation of the HI-eSCR2 aftertreatment solution.

Deep-dive about HI-eSCR2

Beginning in 2019, Europe will respond to Stage V, a new emission regulation standard. HI-eSCR2 is FPT Industrial’s answer to Stage V requirements and an all-new aftertreatment technology. Based on integration of the SCR with a new filtration system, HI-eSCR2 holds a total of 13 protection patents.

HI-eSCR2 integrates a particular filtration system on an SCR module, which does not require vehicle modifications. The HI-eSCR2 occupies the same amount of space as the previous ATS, FPT Industrial’s HI-eSCR, used to comply with Stage IV emission standards. Owing to its compactness, HI-eSCR2 does not compromise the visibility and maneuverability of the vehicle. Furthermore, HI-eSCR2 is an after-treatment system “for life”: end-users have no maintenance costs and thus can reduce the overall Total Cost of Ownership.

FPT Industrial’s new HI-eSCR2 technology ensures high productivity, guarantees best-in-class power and torque density, and requires a very simple installation. When considering specific high load or high power applications, users have no need to halt equipment during operations, thanks to no active regeneration, allowing maximized uptime. This also allows greater safety while working, especially in closed environments such as farm buildings.

The statement “five steps ahead” holds true for FPT Industrial, and five pillars explain how FPT Industrial's HI-eSCR2 technology has been developed to meet customer needs:

  • Reliability, proven by more than 25 years’ experience with SCR technology and more than one million units sold;
  • Ongoing R&D investments allow FPT Industrial to offer leading engine performance, optimizing customer productivity;
  • Durability and higher residual value, thanks to “for life” After Treatment Systems;
  • Regeneration-free systems as a technology roadmap, maximize uptime with no compromise on safety;
  • Environmental sustainability and reduced Total Cost of Ownership guaranteed, while still maintaining best-in-class engine efficiency.
