UK Engine Manufacturing Declines in First Half of 2020

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reports UK engine production fell 38.8% in first half of 2020 to 814,957 units.

Demand from home and international markets was down -32.4% and -42.3% respectively. The decline in engine production mirrors the drop in output at vehicle plants which primarily was a result of the global coronavirus lockdowns.

What we need now are measures to support this cutting-edge sector’s restart and a long-term strategy to provide the competitive market and trade conditions that will accelerate recovery and provide the foundations for future growth.”
