On July 5 Navistar filed a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Navistar says the EPA has been certifying competitors' SCR-equipped engines without ensuring those emission control systems are as environmentally friendly as they claim to be.
Navistar says in the lawsuit that use of DEF in the SCR systems is a costly expense for customers and when it's not refilled it can actually cause emissions to rise.
The company also notes the EPA has been showing preferential treament to companies using the SCR technology.
