Komatsu America Corp., a leading global heavy equipment manufacturer, has introduced the new PC78US-10 hydraulic excavator, a money and time-saving workhorse with a rare pedigree: it has a Tier 4 Final engine that doesn’t require a diesel particulate filter (DPF) or Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF).
The PC78US-10 allows operators to work with ease in confined spaces, thanks to the tight tail-swing radius, offset boom and contoured cab design inherited from its predecessor. What is new to the machine is an up to 3% increase in productivity and an up to 5% drop in fuel usage with no loss of performance.
“This is the ideal machine for anyone working on urban, utility contracting or homebuilding worksites,“ says Rob Orlowski, Komatsu America Product Manager. “Between the extra horsepower and the generous use of boom-area castings, operators should feel confident clearing rocks, tree stumps and similar kinds of debris.”
In addition to requiring no DPF or DEF, the powerful, yet efficient SAA4D95LE-6 3.26 liter, 55 hp engine has a variable flow turbocharger for precise operation and long life. It also has a Komatsu Diesel Oxidation Catalyst aftertreatment designed specifically for the engine to provide 100% passive regeneration and an exhaust gas recirculation system added to reduce NOx emissions.
New cab design features that come standard include:
- ROPS certified cab design with a reinforced cab framework
- New high-resolution LCD screen with ecology-guidance data to assist the operator
- Rearview monitoring system with camera
- New auxiliary jack for digital devices and two 12V outlets
- New secondary engine shutdown switch
- New, in-cab-monitor control of up to 10 attachments
Other operator-friendly enhancements include a new side-by-side radiator and oil cooler to simplify cleaning and the placement of all major maintenance items in areas ground-level accessible from either the engine hood, right-side hood or side-service doors.
The PC78US-10 excavator, whether rented, leased or purchased, is covered by the Komatsu CARE program for the first three years or 2,000 hours, whichever comes first. With all labor, fluids and filters covered by Komatsu over this period, Komatsu CARE lowers ownership costs, raises resale value and improves equipment uptime and availability.
