Hyundai Debuting New 9-Series Forklifts at bauma

Hyundai's three new 9-Series forklifts extends the range's lift capacity up to 25,000 kg and includes the operator presence sensing system to prevent the vehicle from moving unless there is a person in the drivers' seat.

Hyundai is using the bauma Munich exhibition as a platform to launch three new high-performance diesel counterbalance trucks to the latest 9-Series of machines including a brand new heavy-line diesel forklift – the 160D-9.

Hyundai’s design philosophy

The new additions to the 9-Series forklift range provide optimal safety, are environmentally friendly, efficient, ergonomically designed and suited for many different lifting applications from wood to tiles to concrete and rubble bags and many more outdoor uses. The complete Hyundai range now encompasses machines with a lift capacity of 1,500 kg (1.5 tonnes) up to 25,000 kg (25 tonnes).

Peter Neujens, Sales Manager Forklift Hyundai Heavy Industries Europe, comments, “bauma is the perfect opportunity to present our renewed forklift range next to our new range of construction equipment. We are very pleased to show the bauma visitor that our extensive range of trucks offers solutions for a wide array of applications, across many industries. Our trucks are recognized as safe, reliable and hardworking, fulfilling the expectations of the customer.”

At bauma, the following new forklifts will see their world premiere:

  1. 35DA-9 - Diesel forklift (Stage IIIB)
  2. 45D-9 - Diesel forklift (Stage IV)
  3. 160D-9 - Heavy diesel forklift (Stage IV)

Introducing the 35DA-9

The 35DA-9 has a lift capacity of 3,500 kg (3.5 tonne) with a load center of 500 mm – up until now the largest machine in this range was the 33D-9 with a lift capacity of 3,300 kg with a 500 mm load center. The new 35DA-9 is a compact workhorse and a valuable addition to the range and sits comfortably alongside the 25D-9 2.5 tonne, 30D-9 3 tonne and the 33D-9 3.3 tonne machines.

The machines in the 25-35D(A)-9 range are all driven by a high powered Kubota V3307 50 kW/2,300 rpm engine for heavy application. The Stage IIIB Kubota engines are ultra-low in emissions and use only a diesel oxidation catalyst. Avoiding the use of a DPF reduces downtime and no additives are used which in turn makes it ‘hassle free for the operator.’

Introducing the 45D-9

The 45D-9 has a lift capacity of 4,500 kg (4.5 tonne) with a load center of 600 mm. The model is powered by a Stage IV Cummins QSF3.8 engine, which is where it differs from its 9A predecessor.

Introducing the 160D-9

The new 160D-9 has a lift capacity of 16,000 kg (16 tonne) with a load center of 600 mm and is the latest heavy-line machine in the range, which also includes the 110D-9 and the 130D-9. The model has a new digital display similar to the display in the smaller range of machines. Included in the models in this range is a load sensing hydraulic system to reduce fuel consumption. The range is powered by a Stage IV Cummins QSB6.7 engine. The cabin has been upgraded and includes full automatic air conditioning, a front, top and rear wiper, a tilting cabin and a hydraulic pilot system. The bluetooth hands free system comes as an option.

Ergonomic and productivity features on the 110-160D-9

The newly designed cabin for the larger trucks provides excellent all-around visibility and plenty of space ensuring the operator is comfortable in his working environment. The position of the pedals has been revised to offer the operator a smoother drive.

The newly designed cab has an ergonomically designed seat and an adjustable steering column to achieve maximum comfort for the operator. The suspended seat with weight adjustment system offers even more comfort for the driver.

Advanced safety features

With all machines in the new range (22-33D-9/35-50D(A)-9/50-80D-9/110-160D-9/180D-9/250D-9), with the exception of the 22–33-9E models, a speed limiter comes as standard which is easy to program via the machines' display monitor enabling smooth and safe operation of the vehicle. A load sensor, which is an optional extra, checks pressure in the lift cylinder to calculate the weight on the forks. The load is indicated on the display and if an overload occurs the operator is alerted by a warning sound and the display monitor will show the weight of the load flashing red.

An indicator for the machine roll and pitch is available on the display on machines up to 5 tonnes. An auto tilt levelling system is also now included on the new range from 22-33D-9 models as standard – this function returns the mast of the machines to an upright vertical position with the push of a button.

A new electric hand brake system is combined with an anti-roll back function on the 22-33D-9 models. This means that if the machine is inclined more than 3 degrees and the machine comes to a stop, the handbrake is automatically activated to prevent the machine rolling back.  To release this function, the driver pushes the accelerator to regain normal movement. All diesel trucks with a lift capacity over 5 tonnes also have an electric handbrake linked to the OPSS (operator presence sensing system).

Halogen headlights and rear LED combination lights are offered on all trucks from 2.2 tonnes up to 5 tonnes and offer the operator excellent visibility. Rear reflectors mounted on the counterweight further improve visibility. For triplex masts the optimised lift cylinder arrangement provides the operator with wider visibility and the panoramic mirror improves the operators view when reversing. A rear view camera is also available as an option as are full LED lights.

The advanced LCD digital color monitor keeps the operator fully informed, not only about general operational data, but also safety warnings and speed limits. Also, when the operator is reversing an optional rear view camera is activated automatically on the screen for safe backwards maneuvering.

To prevent the machine being operated by non-qualified personnel and to protect the truck from theft, there is an engine start limit feature where personal activation with an entrance code is needed. Other theft prevention measures include a fuel lock hatch, to prevent fuel theft and an optional fuel cap.

The OPSS is fitted as standard – this prevents mast and all drive movements of the truck if the operator is not in his/her seat.

Mast Options

Across the new diesel forklift range (22-33D-9/35-50D-9/50-80D-9) duplex masts, duplex masts with full free lift, triplex masts and quadriplex masts are available with different lift heights up to 8 m.

Fast and easy maintenance

A large engine compartment makes the engine easily accessible for fast and efficient maintenance on the smaller range (< 5 tonne) and on the larger ranges (> 5 tonne) the tilting cabin is available.

The LCD monitor provides easy access to maintenance information – when a service is needed the driver receives a clear warning for early intervention – which optimizes up-time.

The engine and cooling systems are protected from clogging by rear tire covers and if the machine is working in a harsh and dusty environment an additional undercover protective plate is available as an option. On the smaller range (< 5 tonne), the clutch protection system prevents excessive use of inching. The DCSR (direction change shock relief) protects the drive line when changing direction – and only allows a change of direction at low speed – this is also for the smaller trucks in the range.

The new Hyundai forklift diesel range comes with a 2-year/3,000 hours full warranty from the factory.
