Meritor Inc. announces the launch of its next generation 79000 single-reduction drive axle for transit buses with a lifespan three times longer than previous offerings. It will be available to OEMs in early 2018.
- Specifically developed and validated for North America transit bus duty cycle
- For 35-60 ft. (10.7-18.3 m) bus applications
- Every component in carrier custom-engineered to exceed requirements and expectations of transit industry
- Direct replacement for Meritor's 71000 axle, with the same packaging and suspension interfaces, wheel-ends, brakes and wear components for seamless integration
- Gear noise levels are equivalent to the 71000
- Can be used with all-electric powertrains featuring higher torques and rapid torque reversals
- Gross axle weight rating of 28,660 lbs. (12,999.9 kg)
- Features one-piece cast iron housing with integral suspension pads and bolt-on torque rod brackets for extra strength and durability
- Carrier design includes bolted differential case and gear for more efficient assembly and service
- Enables municipal transit fleets to meet American Public Transportation Association's (APTA) guideline for an axle lifetime of 5 years and 300,000 miles
