BorgWarner Secures Inverter Program Extension with European OEM

BorgWarner has secured a major extension of multiple high-volume high-voltage inverter programs with a major European OEM. The agreement covers updated inverter designs for both plug-in hybrid and 800V battery-electric vehicle (BEV) applications, continuing a long-term partnership in power electronics.

Start of production for these programs is planned for 2029.

For plug-in hybrid applications, BorgWarner will supply an updated high-voltage inverter featuring the company’s proprietary Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) technology. This technology, which is already used in the company's 800V inverter portfolio, is fully compatible with the customer’s new vehicle operating system. The design is intended to provide advanced power electronics control and support efficient system implementation.

For 800V battery-electric applications, the traction inverter features a new generation of proprietary Viper SiC power switches and a dual-sided-cooled power module. This configuration is designed to combine high efficiency with cost competitiveness.

According to the company, both inverter families are engineered to strengthen the customer’s competitiveness across its plug-in hybrid and battery-electric portfolio, supporting both reduced-emission and emission-free driving.
