Eberspaecher Vecture has expanded its portfolio of Battery Management Systems (BMS) with the new GuardIon-IQ platform. The modular solution supports battery systems from 12 to 1,500 volts and can be configured for both integrated and distributed architectures.
A Battery Management System (BMS) monitors and protects a battery pack to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation. It tracks key conditions such as cell voltage, temperature and current, helps prevent overcharge, deep discharge and overheating, manages cell balancing, and can provide State of Charge (SOC), State of Health (SOH) and communication with the wider system.
Designed as a compact, cost-effective and scalable BMS platform, GuardIon-IQ supports applications across mobility, unmanned systems, communications, energy storage and medical markets, among others. It includes redundant safety protection, MOSFET and contactor control, current sensing, SOC/SOH algorithms, CAN and Wi-Fi connectivity. A particular focus during development was reducing space and weight. Its compact 80 mm × 55 mm × 12 mm form factor simplifies integration into space-constrained applications, and helps reduce overall system weight to improve performance, efficiency and range.
According to the company, the release represents a step forward in the way customers are able to design and deploy battery management solutions, noting that the scalable, modular architecture enables a common BMS platform to be used across multiple systems, reducing development costs, simplifying integration and accelerating time to market for customers.
Six Variants for Different Battery Architectures
The GuardIon-IQ platform is available in six variants covering integrated and distributed battery architectures. IQ Prime is a compact, cost-optimized integrated BMS with onboard MOSFETs for small-to-medium battery packs, while IQ Pro supports medium-to-large packs using external contactors. IQ Power addresses higher-current applications with MOSFET support and advanced diagnostics, using Protection and Sensing Modules available in 100, 200 and 300 ampere versions. These solutions are applicable to e−mobility, uncrewed systems, off-highway equipment, energy storage, marine and industrial power applications. For distributed high-voltage systems, IQ Command acts as the central controller and manages series strings, while IQ Sentinel provides cell-level measurement, balancing and protection. IQ Apex completes the architecture by monitoring up to three high-voltage nodes at voltages up to 1,500 volts, including ground-fault monitoring. These solutions are suited to high-voltage mobility, industrial and data centers, and larger mobile or grid-scale energy storage applications.
