UQM Motor and Inverter System Receives China Certification

UQM's PowerPhase HD250 electric propulsion system has received certification it meets the 2015 version of the Chinese general specifications for electric motors and inverters for electric vehicles.

UQM Technologies Inc. announces that it has received a new and updated China certification on its PowerPhase HD250 electric propulsion system that meets the latest 2015 version of the Chinese general specifications for electric motors and inverters for electric vehicles. The testing, conducted over a two-month period at the China Automotive Technology & Research Center in Tianjin, included extensive system performance analysis for power and torque, environmental examinations including vibration, salt spray, sealing performance and electrical testing.

The UQM PowerPhase HD250 system is specifically designed for heavy-duty drive applications and provides up to 95% system efficiency. The system consists of a high-performance, liquid-cooled, permanent magnet motor and a high-power, liquid-cooled inverter with a full-featured digital signal processor controller. This system is used in the recently announced PowerPhaseDT drivetrain with a two-speed Eaton transmission for several key China bus customers, including HK Group, Wuzhoulong Motors and ITL.

“This milestone is significant, and comes at a time when we are executing on our China expansion strategy. Because of UQM’s high torque and power density performance, this certification will allow Chinese customers to be eligible for the highest levels of government incentives,” says Joseph Mitchell, President and Chief Executive Officer of UQM Technologies. “This official endorsement from a major China certified laboratory shows that our electric propulsion system meets the most current strict standards that have been established by China, and is an important step for our partners to achieve full vehicle level certification. This certification is mandatory to do business in China and with our transit bus trials now underway, this will help our China customers move closer to rapid deployment and volume sales.”
