The new Cat 335F L CR excavator delivers a 16% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to the 328D model it replaces. The compact radius machine is made for heavy work on congested job sites. Equipped with 32-inch (813-mm) track shoes, the 335F L CR limits over-the-side tail swing to just 7 in. (178 mm); a heavy counterweight enhances overall stability and provides lift capacities up to 41,500 lbs. (18,300 kg). With efficient hydraulics, heavy-duty structures, a quiet and comfortable full-size cab, high-ambient cooling system, ground-level service points, and a range of work tools, the 335F L CR is one well-built, versatile machine for demanding work needs.

The 192 hp (143 kW) C7.1 engine meets strict U.S EPA Tier 4 Final emissions regulations without interrupting the operator or the job. Proven electronic, fuel, air, and aftertreatment components like a maintenance-free diesel particulate filter ensure customer expectations for productivity, fuel efficiency, reliability, and service life are met. The inherent fuel efficiency of the C7.1 is further enhanced with an automatic engine speed control (lowers engine rpm during no-load/light-load conditions), an engine idle shutdown system (stops the engine after a pre-set idling interval), and an ECO mode that allows operators to tailor machine performance to the application. The engine also runs efficiently on biodiesel blends up to B20.

The 335F L CR's powerful hydraulic system places major components in close proximity; this minimizes piping lengths and reduces frictional losses and pressure drops. The system delivers precise flow volume where and when it is required. Combined with boom and stick regeneration circuits that reduce the load on the main pumps, the unique Cat hydraulic system contributes significantly to overall fuel savings.

The 335F L CR’s massive upper frame, carbody, and heavy-duty extended-length undercarriage are designed for durability and ensure an exceptionally strong, stable work platform for digging, lifting, or attachment use. The heavy-duty reach boom and stick provide digging depths to nearly 23 ft. (6.99 m).

The pressurized cab is spacious and quiet with large glass areas for all-around visibility. It features positive air filtration, height-adjustable joystick consoles, a large color monitor, radio with MP3 auxiliary audio port, and available air suspension, heated, and cooled seat options to help make operators comfortable and productive.

Serviceability features include ground-level access to major maintenance points, electric fuel system priming pump, remote fuel tank drain, and a fuel level indicator to help avoid overfilling. Safety features include a cab-integrated roll-over-protection structure (ROPS), anti-skid surfaces, programmable halogen working lights, easily stored upper and lower windows, large skylight, and a rearview camera system.

Technology enhancements
Equipment owners need to employ their machines to full potential in order to realize maximum return on investment. The concern is to produce more but to do so in less time with less fuel while avoiding unnecessary machine wear and ensuring the safety of everyone on the job site. To address these concerns, Caterpillar has developed Cat Connect, a suite of software/hardware systems that help customers more effectively manage equipment and enhance job site safety and production.

Link technologies provide wireless capability that allows two-way transfer of information collected by on-board sensors, control modules, and other Cat Connect technologies using off-board applications such as VisionLink software. In addition, Cat Product Link assists in managing equipment by tracking such information as fuel usage, productivity, idle time, and diagnostic codes.
