Caterpillar Oil & Gas announced certified engine models that are compliant with the new China Nonroad (NR) Stage IV emissions regulation in 2022. The new emissions regulation sets a standard for engines or machinery rated at 560 kW or less.

Caterpillar is committed to keep developing and manufacturing engine products with lower emissions, which definitely helps our customers achieve their emission reduction goals. The new certification—China Nonroad Stage IV—means Cat engines meet the latest emission regulations in China yet without compromising the performance, reliability and durability. By launching these engines, Caterpillar demonstrates key values of sustainable development,” commented Alan Zhang, Caterpillar Oil & Gas Greater China Region general manager.

The Engines

The Cat engines certified for the China Nonroad Stage IV emissions regulation include:

  • C2.2
  • C4.4
  • C7.1
  • C9.3B
  • C13B
  • C15
  • C18 (less than 560 kW)

When compared to the previous certification, China Nonroad Stage III, the new China Nonroad Stage IV emissions regulation sets requirements limiting particulate matter emissions by almost 90% and nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 50%.

Meeting the Limits

To achieve these emission limits within these engines, Caterpillar incorporated key building-block technologies from China Nonroad Stage III with its ACERT technology to achieve these emission limits:

  • High-pressure fuel system with refined injection controls
  • Advanced air-management systems
  • Next-generation turbocharger
  • Upgraded electronics
  • A suite of aftertreatment technologies
