Volvo Penta introduces its bi-fuel 16 liter Tier 4 Interim engine, the TWG1663GE, targeted for prime power and mobile applications.
- Utilizes a precision blend of natural gas and diesel fuel
- Provides fuel cost savings, high power density and advanced SCR to meet emissions regulations
- Introduces natural gas up-stream of turbo-chargers
- Electronic air valve controls amount of natural gas mixed
- Engine compression ignites diesel fuel, which in turn ignites natural gas
- Bi-fuel blending and combustion control is integrated into the Volvo Engine Management System (EMS)
- Enables heavy-duty diesel engines to operate on ratios of up to 70% natural gas and 30% diesel fuel under normal loads, and slightly less natural gas during higher loads
- Can also run exclusively on diesel fuel
- Emissions output meets US EPA and CARB Tier 4i limits, regardless of how the engine blends the two fuels
- Uses Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to reduce NOx and particulate emissions
- Two-stage turbo charging provides power density and load acceptance
- Available for 1800 rpm/60 Hz operation
- Features 144 mm (5.67 in.) bore, 165 mm (6.50 in.) stroke, and prime power of 595 kWm (559 kWe/699 kVa)
