A strategic partnership that has directly benefitted hundreds of customers through the delivery of more than one million dependable diesel engines is set to offer a new range of products to meet the future needs of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

Established in 1995 as a joint venture between Perkins Engines Company Limited and IHI Shibaura Machinery Corporation (ISM), Perkins Shibaura manufactured the first Perkins 400 Series engine from the company’s Peterborough, UK, facility in 2001, to satisfy demand from the compact engine market.

Eighteen years on the highly successful joint venture partnership has seen significant growth since its inception.

“This announcement emphasises the importance of the compact construction market to Perkins,” says Allister Dennis, Product Marketing Manager. “This exciting development will further increase investment and deliver the next wave of product innovation in small engines over the coming years.”

The Perkins 400 Series recently celebrated the production of its one millionth engine, and today it continues to offer a dependable and powerful solution to hundreds of OEMs and end users around the world.

Its flexibility, high performance characteristics and compact package size mean the 400 Series is suited to many applications and territories around the world. A truly global engine offering, the 400 Series has been progressively developed from EU Stage I/U.S. EPA Tier 0 to EU Stage IIIB/U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final, enabling it to meet the customer requirements in different regulated territories with the addition of specific components.

Manufactured in three global locations - Peterborough, UK; Griffin, GA, USA and Wuxi in China - Perkins 400 Series customers benefit from local production, a competitive and flexible offering, and the provision of applications and engineering support.

“The strategic partnership between Perkins and ISM places great emphasis on delivering sustainable benefits to customers and end users,” says Michael Wright, Perkins Shibaura General Manager. “We have made significant investments in new power solutions and have improved the way our products are developed and brought to market. We are excited about the next few years, as these actions build upon our very strong global manufacturing footprint and supply chain and will add increased competitive advantage for our customers.”
