Komatsu Europe International N.V. announces the launch of a new PW160-10 wheeled excavator fitted with an EU Stage IIIB engine that boasts up to 8% less fuel consumption. Built on proven features of previous models, the PW160-10 offers faster cycle times
with a heavier counterweight, excellent stability and an "over the side" lifting capacity improved by 8%. Its enhanced engine management and updated hydraulic system will help Komatsu customers increase productivity and cut ownership costs.

“Thanks to industry-leading characteristics, such as its superior lifting capacity, outstanding stability and upgraded driving performance, the productivity of the PW160-10 can equal that of a higher class machine,” says Sebastian Zienau Product Manager for Wheeled Excavators. “The operator works in a perfectly safe environment and gets more done, faster, at a lower cost with total peace of mind.”

Lowest operating costs

Less complexity and truly seamless operation mean lower costs, for operations and for ownership. Powered by a Komatsu SAA4D107E-2 engine with operating weights ranging between 17.025 to 18.445 kg, the new excavator puts out a net 110 kW (148 hp) at 2,000 rpm.

The integrated design of the new Komatsu Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (KDOC) allows this simple system to remove soot using 100% “true passive regeneration” without the need for a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The KDOC is designed for long life and has no scheduled replacement interval.

Engine management was improved on the PW160-10 and the hydraulic system updated with a new main control valve (cartridge type). Easier to replace and with hardened internal parts, this hydraulic valve simplifies maintenance with an increased component life time.

Highest comfort and safety

Large panoramic windows guarantee an excellent all-round visibility further supported by a rearview camera. The PW160-10 excavator is equipped with cruise control for comfortable long distance travel. New ergonomic switches and the “ECO-Guidance” tips posted on the upgraded cab monitor make operations easier than ever and favor lower fuel consumption. The seat is specially designed for a wheeled machine and is exceptionally comfortable. The wide SpaceCab has fully automatic climate control, while vibrations and noise levels are kept at a class-leading minimum by the viscous damper cabin mounting.

The new steering column can be adjusted to the operator’s preferred height, and the ergonomic joysticks with proportional controls were specially developed for work with a wheeled excavator: their horizontal orientation allows the safe and precise operation of hydraulically-driven attachments. The oscillating axle can instantly be locked manually with a simple touch of a button on the left joystick. A new “fine control” mode helps the operator get the job done faster during precision work.

Enhanced flexibility and easy serviceability

The user-friendly interface of the Equipment Management and Monitoring System (EMMS) is accessed along with all essential machine functions on the cab’s monitor screen and can be set up in seconds. All Komatsu machines are designed for easy maintenance and the PW160-10 is no
exception. The regular engine service and greasing points are centralized with the filters, and are safely accessible by a new straight ladder.

The PW160-10 is supported by Komatsu CARE, a complimentary maintenance program for Komatsu customers that comes standard with most new Komatsu EU Stage IIIB construction machines. For the first three years or 2,000 hours it covers factory-scheduled maintenance, performed by Komatsu-trained technicians with Komatsu Genuine parts.

The latest KOMTRAX technology on the PW160-10 sends machine operating information to a secure website utilizing wireless technology. Data such as operating hours, fuel consumption, location, cautions and maintenance alerts are relayed to the web application for analysis. The KOMTRAX fleet monitoring system increases machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft, allows for remote diagnosis by the distributor, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiency and productivity.
