The new mid-size Cat 320F L hydraulic excavator—introduced at bauma 2016 for the European and Israelian markets—is a reliable, durable, low-cost-per-hour model featuring a powerful, efficient Cat C4.4 ACERT engine that meets EU Stage IV emissions standards and rated at 122 kW (166 PS), and a proven hydraulic system capable of handling a variety of heavy-duty tasks. With a weight range of 21,500-23,000 kg, the 320F L is sized for both high productivity and easy transport from job to job.
Based on engineering validation, the fuel consumption of the 320F L is up to 8.5% less compared with that of 320E L, while delivering the same standard mode lifting and digging capabilities. The C4.4 ACERT engine features advanced electronic, fuel, air and aftertreatment components, including a maintenance-free diesel particulate filter (DPF), and uses an isochronous control that automatically manages pump and engine speed for improved fuel efficiency. Boom and stick recirculation valves further reduce fuel consumption and speed cycle times.
Durability
The 320F L is designed for long-term durability, incorporating a heavy-duty upper mainframe, carbody (lower frame), and track-roller frames. Available booms and sticks are robotically welded for optimum strength, and greased track chains reduce friction between pins and bushings to significantly increase undercarriage life, while also reducing track noise when traveling. The 320F L's high-pressure fuel pump and fuel injectors also contribute to the machine's overall durability and reliability.
Versatility
The 320F L is available with a Reach or Variable Adjustable boom and with a choice of two sticks—2.5 and 2.9 m in length. Cat buckets, available in several styles to meet specific excavating and truck-loading requirements, as well as a wide selection of matched Cat work tools, expand the versatility of the 320F L for optimum performance. Auxiliary hydraulic circuits are available to support tools such as a hammer, grapple, thumb, compactor, shear or pulverizer. Available tool control systems and Cat quick coupler ensure rapid work tool changes.
Comfort and convenience
The full-size, roll-over protective structure (ROPS) cab is quiet, comfortable and spacious. Controls are designed for easy operation, seat and armrests are fully adjustable, and an automatic climate control system ensures operator comfort and productivity in all weather. A rearview camera is standard equipment.
Serviceability and safety
Most routine maintenance points are easily reached at ground level. Wide service doors provide access to filters, pressure taps, and S∙O∙SSM fluid sampling ports, which are grouped for convenience.
Handrails and the use of anti-skid plating and countersunk bolts on walking surfaces enhance safety, as does a full length firewall that separates the pump and engine compartments. A ground level, fuel cut-off switch allows quickly stopping the engine in emergencies.
Technology
Part of LINK technologies, the Product Link system wirelessly connects owners to their equipment, providing access to valuable machine data such as location, hours, fuel consumption, idle time, events and diagnostic codes for analysis and reporting via the online VisionLink user interface. LINK information assists with fact-based decision making to help increase efficiency and lower owning and operating costs.
