Altra Holdings Inc., a global designer, producer and marketer of a wide range of electromechanical power transmission products, was recently named in Forbes Magazine’s “100 Best Small Public Companies in America.” Altra, headquartered in Braintree, MA, was one of 27 newcomers to the 2011 list.

Altra had sales of $520 million in 2010 and has over 3,300 employees located at manufacturing and sales facilities around the world. Based upon Altra’s current guidance, the company is forecasted to increase revenues by more than 28% in 2011 versus 2010 and diluted earnings per share growth is anticipated to exceed 50%.

The Forbes list includes companies that have outstanding sales and earnings growth. Candidates must have been publicly traded for at least a year with revenues between $5 million and $1 billion. “Altra made the cut on the strength of their results over the past 12 months,” says Kurt Badenhausen, Forbes Senior Editor. Stock performance versus each company’s peer group was also considered.

“Our mission is to provide an above average return on investment to our shareholders, an enriching and creative work environment for our associates, and the best value-added electromechanical power transmission solutions to our customers,” says Carl Christenson, President and CEO. “Going forward, we will continue to execute aggressively on our growth strategy that focuses on capitalizing on opportunities in new and existing markets, increasing our presence in key under-penetrated geographic regions, entering new high-growth markets, and pursuing strategic acquisitions.”
