Perkins is set to launch the 1104D-E44, an electronic 4.4 liter, four-cylinder engine that offers higher levels of fuel tolerance and operational robustness while meeting Tier 3 equivalent/Stage IIIA emission standards.

  • Available in two versions
  • 1104D-E44T is a turbocharged unit offering power ratings of 80.4 to 99.9 hp (60 to 74.5 kW)
  • 1104D-E44TA is a turbocharged aftercooled model that tops out at 142.1 hp (106 kW) at 2,200 rpm, with peak torque of 556 Nm at 1,400 rpm
  • Upgraded fuel system overcomes problems of varying fuel quality by increasing tolerance to poor quality diesel while improved filtration captures any debris present
  • Common rail fuel injection system helps optimize fuel economy and boost overall machine performance
  • Suitable for all major applications in construction, agriculture and electric power
  • Offers variety of build options for specific machine groups
  • Features multi-vee front-end auxiliary drive systems that are self-tensioning for minimized maintenance

In engines of similar or same displacement, the main factors that contribute to an increase in specific power are: utilization of more complex-structure turbochargers, such as variable-geometry or dual-stage; an increase in peak cylinder pressure and the use of an SCR-only aftertreatment system without any recycling of exhaust gas in cylinder, especially in engines with a displacement higher than four liters.
The trend toward higher power densities
Tier regulations have pushed for more advanced engine technology and optimized systems, the rewards of which are more power from smaller engines.
