Caterpillar Cutting Jobs at Joiliet Plant

The company is cutting up to 285 jobs at its Joliet plant in order to move production to Mexico.

Caterpillar Inc. has announced it will begin laying off 285 workers at its plant in Joliet, IL, as part of plans it first announced 3 years ago to move production to Mexico. 

The company has announced layoffs will begin January 2, 2019 and continue through June. 

A spokesperson for Caterpillar said an agreement had been reached with the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers to extend the current contract at the facility into 2019 to complete work in order to meet customer needs.
