EPA Cuts Cellulosic Ethanol Mandate

The Environmental Protection Agency has cut the amount of cellulosic ethanol it will require be used in 2012.

The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed reducing the amount of cellulosic ethanol used in gas tanks from its previous mandate for 2012. EPA changed the amount from a 2007 energy law requiring 500 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol in gas tanks to no more than 12.9 million gallons. The agency says this is due to the lack of market availability.
