ASABE adopts ISO standard for large rotary mowers

ASABE has adopted ISO 4254-13:2012 for large rotary mowers and withdrawn its own standard, ASAE S474.1.

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) announces the adoption, with deviations, of ISO 4254-13:2012, Agricultural machinery - Safety - Part 13: Large rotary mowers. Concurrently, ASABE has withdrawn its corresponding standard, ASAE S474.1, Agricultural Rotary Mower Safety, on which the ISO document is based. The actions promote harmonization of the national and international standards, a goal that facilitates manufacturing, safety advancements and product marketing worldwide.

The newly adopted document includes a maximum cutting height for use in conducting the foot probe test, a specification not found in the ISO standard, its inclusion advances alignment of the ASABE document with another commonly referenced standard, SAE J232, Industrial Rotary Mowers, published by SAE International.
