Volvo Celebrates Red Dot Award

Volvo Construction Equipment announces it has won a red dot award for its L220G wheel loader.

Volvo Construction Equipment’s design team was rubbing shoulders with other top inventors from around the world last week as they attended the red dot awards ceremony in Essen, Germany.

Volvo’s team, made up of designers and design engineers, travelled to the red dot design museum in Essen to collect the red dot award for product design 2011, which it won for the Volvo L220G wheel loader.

Volvo’s L220G beat thousands of entrants in the vehicles category of the award to win the red dot – the most globally recognized mark for industrial design quality. To win the award the machine was judged by a strict panel of design experts who marked the product on innovation, quality, durability and ecological compatibility. The L220G, part of Volvo’s new G-Series wheel loader range, caught the judges eye because of its new fuel efficient and productive design.

Design Director Stina Nilimaa Wickström smiled proudly as she accepted the award on behalf of the company and the design team. “This is a real symbol of our hard work and creativity at Volvo,” she says. “It is so satisfying to see the L220G wheel loader progress from paper, to machine and now to an international design award! I know I can speak on behalf of the whole company when I say I am so proud of this award; it shows we are leaders in innovation and world class machine design. But it is only made possible thanks to great teamwork.”

Stina joined her Senior Designer John Samuelsson to accept the award and Design Engineers Marcus Koggdal, Henrik Kroksmyr and Claes-Göran Svensson who helped bring the innovative ideas to life.

All red dot winning designs are available for immediate viewing at the red dot museum in Essen, Germany, from July 5-31 as part of a special exhibition entitled: Design on stage – winners red dot award: product design 2011.
