Alliance Sensors Group announces the ME Series of Linear Position Sensors for embedded use in measuring the ram position of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders in industrial, mobile or subsea applications.
- Designed to be drop-in form, fit and function replacement for embedded magnetostrictive sensors but with more robust construction and lower cost of ownership
- Can replace embedded resistance potentiometers, offering high accuracy without wearout
- Contactless inductive sensing technology uses solid probe construction and requires only a simple conductive tubular target or a small diameter deep hole gun drilled in cylinder rod for operation rather than needing a permanent magnet ring, counter-bored hole, or any other type of special target
- Withstands intense shocks and vibration, and operating temperatures up to 85 C (185 F) for standard products and 125 C (257 F) for custom units
- Uses simple coil design rather than “time-of-flight” technology or resistive film
- Head similar to that of typical embedded sensors and fits into same 48 mm (1.89 in.) diameter cavity as a magnetostrictive sensor or potentiometer fitted into the end housing of a cylinder
- Magnet ring can usually be left in place without significantly affecting performance for applications where an existing magnetostrictive sensor is being replaced
- Available in full ranges from 2-36 in. (50-900 mm) with either analog DC voltage or current outputs
- Features linearity error less than or equal to ±0.1% of Full Scale Output, and -3 dB frequency response of 500 Hz
- Contactless design prevents wear and output signal deterioration over lifespan
- Offered in diameters of 7 mm/0.28 in. (ME-7) for industrial use and 11 mm/0.43 in. (ME-11) for heavier duty or larger cylinder use
- Comes standard with lead wires, a 4-conductor cable, or a field-assembled 2-piece M-12 connector
- Housing sealed to IP-67 and uses no trimmer pots for setting Zero and Full Scale
- Proprietary SenSet calibration feature permits user to match analog output to motion of actuator or cylinder on a stand-alone basis rather than having to scale sensor's basic output in an associated control system
