New Digital Hydraulic Actuator Overcomes Shortcomings of Traditional Systems

Volvo CE is developing a digital hydraulic actuator which has shown fuel efficiency improvements of 50% in an excavator application.


On this week’s episode of OEM Industry Update, editor Sara Jensen speaks with Kim Heybroek, Research Engineer at Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), about a digital hydraulic actuator the company is currently developing. The company is partnering with Norhydro on the actuator and has matured it enough to begin testing it in construction equipment. Volvo CE sees the digital actuator providing efficiency improvements as the inclusion of electronics helps to provide more precise performance.
