Novotechnik Releases LWX Series for Measuring Linear Position in Harsh Environments

The company's IP67-rated transducers use pressure compensation to support reliable operation in mobile equipment and industrial machinery.

Novotechnik U.S. offers the LWX Series of linear position transducers for harsh operating environments, including equipment exposed to high-pressure washdowns, grease, dust and vibration. The corrosion-resistant, all-metal sensors provide direct, absolute displacement measurement in applications such as mobile machine steering cylinders, construction equipment and industrial machinery.

Movement of a sensor's actuating rod can create pressure changes inside its housing. The LWX Series uses a differential pressure compensation system with a GORE membrane to address this "pump effect." The transducers are rated IP67, including during rod movement, and are available as Model 003 or as Model 004, which features a protective stainless-steel sleeve over the shaft.

A double-bearing actuating rod and low-backlash pivot-head mounting support position measurement where the linkage moves through an angle. The pivot heads permit up to ±12.5 degrees of angular movement. Independent linearity varies by measurement range, reaching ±0.04% on the 750 mm version. The series also offers 0.01 mm repeatability and resolution better than 0.01 mm.

The LWX Series is available in defined electrical ranges from 50 to 750 mm, with cable or M12 connector options. The transducers operate from −30 degrees Celsius to +100 degrees Celsius and are specified for vibration up to 20 g and shock of 50 g for 11 ms. Typical service life exceeds 50 million movements, depending on the application.
