2. Construction and industrial segments largest off-highway markets for telematics use

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, "Analysis of the North American Off-highway Vehicle (OHV) Telematics Market," finds that 107,100 OHV vehicles installed telematics in 2013, and is projected to increase to 135,000 by 2015. A sudden spike in the volume of telematics-integrated vehicles is expected after 2015, due to the entry of rental equipment companies into the telematics market.

3. Trelleborg reveals results of the tire footprint effect on farming efficiency

With one tractor fitted with Trelleborg’s wide 710/60R38 TM1000 High Power tires and the other a standard 520/85R38 tire, digital chronometers measured the time taken for each tractor to complete the track, while two pipes were set up to show fuel consumption to allow calculation of efficiency savings.

4. Caterpillar debuting over a dozen new machines at CONEXPO

Four Caterpillar exhibit areas totaling about 60,000 sq. ft. of floor space showcase more than 40 machines, most with integrated technologies that help equipment operators, managers and owners get the most from each machine, each hour of operation and throughout its full life cycle.

5. Cummins-powered Tornado Intercept Vehicle on display at CONEXPO

Design and build work on Tornado Intercept Vehicle (TIV2) started in late 2007, with its debut in spring 2008. Sitting on a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 chassis, the TIV2 comes in weighing around 16,000 lbs., thanks to the layers of protective armor that shield the vehicle and its occupants from the over-150-mph storm winds that the TIV2 encounters while chasing storms. The vehicle is built on a 2-inch steel frame, and utilizes hydraulics to hunker down as a storm approaches.

6. Cummins begins production on 6-cylinder Tier 4 Final engines

Cummins Inc. has started production of 6-cylinder engines certified to meet the EPA Tier 4 Final regulations, equivalent standards in Canada and Stage IV in Europe. Engine production across a broad 190 to 675 hp (142 to 503 kW) output will increase during the course of the 2014 year as off-highway equipment manufacturers release machines ready to meet the near-zero emissions standards, that took effect January 1, 2014.

7. Thomson introduces video demonstrating capabilities of PC-Series electric linear actuators

The new Thomson video – introducing the new PC-Series precision electric linear actuators for continuous duty applications, optimized to help design engineers convert from pneumatic to electric linear actuation – illustrates the greater power density of these units compared with equivalent force pneumatic actuators and explains how electric actuation gives more precise control of velocity and position with substantially lower assembly and energy costs.

8. Case IH introduces new Magnum Rowtrac tractor

Two new models will work well in soil conditions that require better flotation and reduced compaction. A Case IH oscillating rear-track system is paired with front tire options to fit virtually any row width. This system keeps the power on the ground through the tightest turns, improves maneuverability, reduces berming and improves operator control of the tractor.
