During a speech at Ohio State University, President Obama announced the administration's plan to make $35 million in funding available over the next three years for research and development of biofuels, bioenergy and high-value biobased products.
The goal is to find and develop economically as well as environmentally sustainable sources of renewable biomass.
Funding will be given through the Biomass Research and Development Initiative (BRDI), which is a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
Science and engineering projects that are eligible for funding should fit into the following three technical areas:
- Feedstock Development
- Biofuels and Biobased Products Development
- Biofuels Development Analysis
